2017 Season: 11-19 (Last year: 13-15)
Noteworthy on this year’s squad, the girls team featured 12 seniors on the Varsity lineup, and a pre-season ranking of 3rd in the state. Facing formidable opponents all year long, especially from eventual state champions Napoleon and a tough Mavericks squad, the team battled their way through the 2017 season, finishing with a 11-19 record and ranking 6th at the girls’ state tournament, held in October at Princeton High School.
The Girls’ team was led by co-captain and senior Cary Culp, who finished with 92 goals on 214 attempts (43%), 25 assists, and 96 steals, earning her way to All-Ohio Honorable Mention recognition. The squad featured a platoon of senior goalies, Samantha Worobetz and Catherine Xu, backed by a team heavy with seniors, including Kelly Tibbetts, Alise Cheeseman, Kiara Ford, Haley Dardis, Erin Gilliland, Uma Mylavarapu, Emma Smith, Abigail Gunter, and Jensen Hatch.
Looking ahead to next year, the key for the 2018 girls’ team will be recruiting, to account for so many graduating players. That said, next year’s team will likely feature a pair of returning seniors, Abby Burns and Meghan Lythgoe, along with a trio of formidable juniors returning from the Varsity squad: Alivia Johnson, Fiona Halloran, and Gabriella Godenzi.
