New Chess Coach

Keith Brackenridge will be assuming the role as Chess Team Coach for the 2017/18 Season. Keith will be in the building May 25th at 7:30 am.  I will try to bring him around to meet each of you.

Keith was the varsity chess team coach at Sycamore High School for 20 years (1991-97 and 2001-2015).  During that time, his teams won 14 GMC Championships, and his coaching record was 289 (wins) – 20 (losses) – and 11 (ties).  In those 20 years, He took the Sycamore Chess Team to the U. S. Chess Federation (USCF) National High School Chess Championships in Detroit, Chicago, Knoxville, and Nashville.  He hopes to begin a tradition of attending the High School Nationals as the coach at Mason High School beginning with the 2018 event in Columbus, Ohio.

Outside his role as a coach, He is a USCF Senior-level Tournament Director.  He has worked as the Chief Assistant TD at a number of scholastic state championship events in Ohio including the High School/Middle School, Elementary and Grade Level tournaments.  He is also the co-organizer of the annual Cincinnati Open, an event held in Blue Ash which attracted 117 players this year.  He is a math instructor full-time at Miami University in Oxford, and his primary teaching assignment is Calculus 1.  Keith looks forward to coaching chess again and working with some very talented players to help them find ways to excel!
