Boys Water Polo Season Rewind

2017 Season: 19-18-2 (last year: 13-19)

The boys’ team saw remarkable seasons from seniors and co-captains Caleb Bloodworth and Brian Karl, along with a number of strong performances up and down their roster. The boys finished first in the Silver Division at the Sunlight Shootout in September, and in October the Comets finished seventh while hosting the boys’ water polo state tournament at the Mason High School Natatorium.

Senior Caleb Bloodworth led the Comets in most offensive categories, including 114 goals on 249 shots (46% shooting), 123 steals, 8 blocks, and 52 kickouts, earning him 1st Team All Ohio. At goalie, senior Brian Karl also turned in an impressive year, with 320 blocks to earn All-Ohio Honorable Mention. Other seniors included Davis O’Brien, Luis Carrillo, Will Franzoni, and Roman Groenewold.

The Boys’ team next year figures to have continuity: Losing only six varsity seniors to graduation, the Comets will likely feature returning starters Stefano Di Loreto and Luke Volpenhein, along with Cole Peterson, Ben Harpen, and Tony Palermo.
